The only problem with this is that “ADOS” means “adolescent” in French. That's better than "DOS", but not quite there. I personally
don't want my family, or black people in general to be thought of as
children or second-best. This is why I believe that the name should change one more time, from "ADOS" to "DASA"; "DASA" means "Descendants of American Slaves from
Africa".
Below is a table I created while looking for the proper name:
Acronym/Name | Meaning | Foreign Translations/ Miscellaneous | Viability/Comments (Good/Bad/Ok) |
Is it taken or available? |
DOS | Descendants of Slaves | T/L: Spanish: dos Meaning: two |
Bad Nobody wants to call their people the number two. |
Available *DOS changed to ADOS |
ADOS | American Descendants of Slaves | T/L: French: ado Meaning: adolescent; teenager |
Bad I personally don’t want to reinforce the idea that black people are children. |
Taken |
DASA | Descendants of American Slaves from Africa | Sanskrit: dasa Meaning: servant; slave *Sanskrit is a dead language |
This word perfectly captures the lineage of black Americans, honors the ancestors, and you'll never hear someone speaking Sanskrit on the street. | Taken *If we can get 15 million DASA onboard with the name, I'll get a tattoo. |
DAS | Descendants of American Slaves | T/L: German: das (gender: neuter)
Meaning: “the” |
Ok | Taken *A group calling themselves “DAS” tried to foster a "treaty" between themselves and an ADOS Chapter. They believe they’re their own country. A toothless declaration. |
DAAS |
Descendants of African-American Slaves | T/L: N/A Sounds like: German “das” (see above) |
Ok | Available |
ABDOS | American Black Descendants of Slaves | T/L: Sundanese: abdos Meaning: porto (a port or port wine) |
How do you feel about wine or ports? (the Sundanese live in Indonesia and number about 40 million, putting their group in a 5:4 ratio to the 32 million DASA) | Available |
BADOS | Black American Descendants of Slaves | Literally has the word “bad” in it | Bad -os | Available |
